Mardi
Gras
2011
in
New Orleans
The New Orleans Mardi Gras season 2011 began on January
6th with the Phunny
Phorty Phellows street car parade and culminates on Fat Tuesday
which falls on March 9th.
On February 19th you can experience an Inn The Quarter
favorite Mardi Gras event. The
Krewe du Vieux, which begins its route at the corner of Franklin
and Royal Streets in the Marigny, was founded in 1987 and is the only
parade that passes through the French Quarter. This relatively well-organized
group of about 600 remains faithful to its satirical, outrageous and
inebriated roots, and continues the traditions of the hand-made costumes,
hand-drawn or mule-drawn floats and the showcasing of the city's incredible
brass bands.
More parades follow on February
25th, 26th, and 27th and beginning March 3rd build up to
the grand finale on March 8th.
Don't miss The
Krewe of Muses parade on the 3rd as that Krewe is known for having
some of the most beautiful floats and some of the most sought after
throws of all.
Once the parades are over and you've strolled through the French Quarter,
end your celebration at the Frenchmen Street block party. This eclectic
mix of locals and tourists "in the know" meet at on a three
block span along Frenchmen Street between Esplanade Avenue and Royal
Streets in the Faubourg Marigny.
We look forward to hearing from you and helping you plan and prepare
for your Mardi Gras 2011 activities.
